Nire auzokideak — Describing three neighbours

This lesson brings together everything from topic 10. Here you practise something concrete and useful: describing three of your neighbours with simple but connected sentences. It’s the A1 acid test — and it’s exactly what gets worked on in the first classroom introductions.

Standard structure (recommended order)

For each neighbour, always follow these pieces. If you have them, the description builds itself:

1. Introduction — Hau nire bizilaguna da. Bera X-koa da. (where they’re from)
2. Age / marital status — X urte ditu. Ezkonduta / Bakarrik dago.
3. Profession — Bera Y da. or Y-an lan egiten du.
4. Character — Oso jatorra da. or Lasaia / Berritsua da.
5. A personal detail — something you observe: when you see them, what they do.

You don’t need to say all five things. With three, you already have a description.

E.g.: Bera lasaia da, baina asteburuetan zaratatsua bihurtzen da. Adibidez, ostiraletan musika entzuten du gauean.

Final tip: your first descriptions of neighbours won’t be perfect. What matters is that the listener understands who they are, what they do and how you see them. With that foundation, the grammar corrections come naturally with practice.
