Asking for an appointment (the modern ritual)

Hitzordua eskatu behar da aurretik, webgunean edo telefonoz. — You have to make an appointment beforehand, on the website or by phone.

Hitzordua daukat gaurko, hamaiketan, erroldarako. — I have an appointment for today, at eleven, for the municipal registration.

At the counter

— Egun on. Errolda-agiri bat behar dut, banketxerako.

— NANa, mesedez… Momentu bat… Tori, hemen duzu. Doan da.

— Eskerrik asko! Eta beste kontu bat: etxez aldatu naiz. Erroldatzeko, zer egin behar dut?

— Eskabide hau bete eta etxebizitzaren kontratua ekarri. Fotokopiarik ez da behar; guk egiten dugu.

— Bikain. Eperik badago?

— Ez, lasai, edonoiz etor zaitezke. Baina hitzordua eskatu lehenago, e!

Three survival phrases

Zer agiri ekarri behar ditut? — What documents do I have to bring?

Noiz arte daukat epea? — What’s the deadline?

Nork sinatu behar du? — Who has to sign?

Note: hitzordua is literally “word hour” (hitza + ordua) — a doctor’s appointment, a city hall appointment, or a romantic date: it’s the same word. The context (and the face you make) does the rest. 😄
