My week (review lesson)

Final lesson of the unit: we’re going to put together a whole week by combining everything we’ve learned. Days, future tenses, appointments, time markers… the language of planning.

Zer egingo duzu aste honetan? — What are you going to do this week?

A natural answer would use the day + future tense:

Astelehenean kiroldegira joango naiz. Asteartean euskara klasea dut. Asteazkenean bilera bat izango dut. Ostegunean lasai egongo naiz. Ostiralean lagunekin afaltzera joango gara. Asteburuan mendira joango gara.

On Monday I’ll go to the gym. On Tuesday I have Basque class. On Wednesday I’ll have a meeting. On Thursday I’ll take it easy. On Friday we’ll go out for dinner with friends. On the weekend we’ll go to the mountains.

Astelehenean lana dut goizean, eta arratsaldean kiroldegira joango naiz. Asteartean medikuarekin daukat hitzordua, hamabietan. Asteazkenean ez dut ezer berezirik, etxean afalduko dut lasai. Ostegunean Maialenekin geratuko naiz kafe bat hartzeko, sei eta erdietan. Ostiralean afari bat dugu lankideekin. Larunbatean asteburu pasa: Bilbora joango gara nire bikotekidearekin. Key phrases for coordinating the week

Libre zaude X-(e)an? — Are you free on X?
Hamarretan ondo? — Ten o’clock okay?
Beste egun batean izan beharko du. — It will have to be another day.
Konforme, X-(e)an geratuko gara. — Okay, let’s meet on X.

Cultural note: in many places you’ll see signs like “Asteburu honetan jaiak” or “Datorren ostiralean kontzertua”. Time markers like datorren and asteburu honetan appear both in conversation and on any information board in the neighborhood. When your ear recognizes them, reading the street becomes much easier.
